The Preston Windrush Generation and Descendants (PWGD) UK is a community led group supporting the Black Community in Preston by giving advice and guidance to the victims of the Windrush scandal.
In response to the COVID-19 crisis, PWGD UK group has launched an outreach food project aimed to the vulnerable elderly population by cooking and delivering free African-Caribbean food to 65+ years old members of the community. This outreach project will fulfill the cultural gastronomic need of the black community who are isolated and unable to access shopping for the ingredients on their normal nutritional routine which can further impact on their mental health.
Currently the group and its volunteers are delivering food every Friday to the vulnerable elderly in Preston and adjacent areas.

Dear followers,
Thank you for your donations so far. Windrush Community Response has reached week 28 and going into Week 29.
It has been amazing last week we delivered almost 300 meals, welcomed more new volunteers to the team.
A lady of 72 years on dialysis contacted us from London and she now receives meals from a member of FREETALK.
As you know we like to continue permanently to provide hot caribbean food. However we need a building URGENTLY, some premises to cook, prepare meals and with the feedback questionnaire we have received from our seniors and users, provide a cultural, social, health and well being, and educational space for the Windrush Generation and wider community. The Windrush generation are those who came to the UK from around the world, the commonwealth and especially like most of our parents and grandparents the caribbean.
We have a dedicated team of volunteers and drivers who give their time and love learning about the caribbean - culture and so much more each week, from the young to the old!
Please share our story and if you can donate thank you .
We like to share more stories each week and if you like a meal too and like to join us you are welcome.
Thank you again

Learning doesn’t need to stop when retirement starts. One of the many bonuses of retirement is the extra time to try out new activities, and learning is a great way to keep the mind active and to socialise. These sessions are designed specifically with the over 50s and retired people in mind.
Due to Covid-19 all sessions are delivered using Zoom until further notice.

Your support is key to allow us to continue alleviating the challenges faced by our local elderly community in this difficult times by bringing food to their front doors. It is undeniable that food brings people together and promote a real sense of belonging and identity.
Would you consider donating any amount to help us achieve our mission?
We thank you in advance for your support! Your donation is greatly appreciated and will be used to continue this initiative.
